SEPTA Bus Driver Beaten by Group of Men

Police are searching for two men who assaulted a SEPTA bus driver overnight in North Philadelphia.

"Somebody wants to hurt and assault somebody on SEPTA or to hurt a driver. What did that driver do besides or show up for work?" said SEPTA rider Tiffany Williams-Hoyle.

The beating happened along SEPTA's Route 54 bus at W. Lehigh Avenue and N. 22nd Street around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, police said. The bus was heading from Strawberry Mansion to Port Richmond.

Ninety percent of SEPTA buses have cameras on them, but this bus did not and was scheduled to be outfitted with cameras in the next year or two.

The men fled from the bus right after. Police believe the suspects got into a white Mercedes-Benz with Pennsylvania tags.

The bus driver suffered a head injury in the assault and was treated at Temple University Hospital, police said.

Officials are working to determine what sparked the beating.
