A community group that opposes the demolition of a historic New Jersey mansion once owned by Doris Duke has filed an amended lawsuit to halt approved plans to tear it down.
The Hillsborough Township Historic Preservation Commission approved the demolition plans in October.
NJ.com reports the community group DORIS, for Demolition of Residence is Senseless, is seeking to overturn the commission's vote, claiming its decision was "arbitrary" and lacked a sufficient basis in the law.
The Duke Farms Foundation wants to demolish the 67,000-square-foot mansion that's been empty since the tobacco heiress' death in 1993. They say the building has fallen into disrepair and would take at least $10 million to bring up to code.
The executive director of the foundation says they're aware of the complaint and are preparing to respond.
