Chef at Governor's Mansion Pawned Rendell's Silver: Cops

Suspect was a chef at the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion for nine years

A chef at the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion also allegedly moonlighted as a silver hocker – and stolen goods belonged to Gov. Ed Rendell.

State Police arrested 28-year-old Michael D. Yancy of Lebanon Monday, charging him with several counts of receiving stolen property.

Yancy, who worked as a chef at the governor’s mansion for nine years allegedly stole silver cutlery, silver dining items, photographs and other items valued at more than $10,000, police say.

Yancy had been stealing items from the mansion, including a football signed by ex-Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly to Rendell, for the past two months, police say.

Some of the items stolen from the mansion, such as a silver tea set, “may have historical or priceless value,” police say.

Yancy allegedly sold many of the items to a pawn shop on Cumberland Street in Lebanon over nine different occasions, say police.

Yancy is being held on $15,000 bail and has been forbidden from having any contact with Gov. Tom Corbett, former Gov. Rendell and the present and last lieutenant governors.
