Gov. Rendell Says Spending Billions Helped Recession

Spending is credited with creating or saving more than 136K jobs in Pa., according to the governor.

Gov. Ed Rendell says the billions of dollars in federal stimulus funds pumped into the state has
lessened the impact of the recession on Pennsylvania families and funded projects that will pay dividends for years to come.

The Democratic governor said at a Thursday news conference that the spending is credited with creating or saving more than 136,000 jobs in the state.

Rendell says most of the state's $31 billion share has now been spent on a mixture of tax cuts, infrastructure improvements, unemployment benefits, job training and other programs.

He says it's not popular to say the stimulus has worked, but he's convinced that it has.
