The City of Chester partnered with a local radio station and the Delaware County District Attorney’s office to host “Goods for Guns” Saturday. The event is part of the city’s ongoing anti violence movement.
Participants dropped off up to two guns in exchange for $100 each in Shoprite gift cards.
Police officers were at Chester’s two firehouses to collect the firearms. Nearly 300 weapons were collected in all.
Last month the city’s mayor enforced a state of emergency plan including curfews and more police presence in particular areas after a several deadly shootings in June.
The state of emergency was lifted days later.
