No word on what caused the fire

When Calvin Gamble Jr. heard a man calling for help from inside a burning home in the Tioga-Nicetown section early Sunday morning, he didn't wait for firefighters to arrive.

Kicking in the door, Gamble rushed into the burning home on the 3500 block of North 23rd Street and brought Barry Peterson to safety across the street.  

Peterson, who is in his 60s, was taken to Temple University Hospital where he's being treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries.

The cause of the fire, which started just before 4:00 a.m. and spread to a nearby home, is under investigation.
