Good Samaritan Chases Away Teen's Robbers

Boy's family thanks woman who jumped off SEPTA bus to chase away the attackers

A Mount Airy boy says he has a random stranger to thank after she came to his rescue Thursday morning.

The 13-year-old boy was robbed at 7:30 while getting off a SEPTA bus at E Washington Avenue and Crittenden Street to go to Hill Freedman Middle School.

Fortunately the Good Samaritan stepped in to help.

Two other teenagers allegedly robbed the boy, who has Autism, as soon as he stepped off the bus to go to school.

"They punched me, they pushed me down and took my phone," the boy recalled.

Luckily Cassandra Lee, a complete stranger, got off the bus and chased the thieves away. She then called the cops and waited with the boy until they arrived.

"Thank you for taking care of my son," said the boy's mother, Bernadette Williams.

The Williams family didn't know what would have happened to their boy if Lee hadn't stepped in.

Lee says she is retired police officer who works at Steel Elementary School.

"I told the bus driver to let me off. And I just told him to stay until police came but I lost them," said Lee.

The thieves got away with the boy’s cell phone, reportedly worth about $200, police said.

The suspects are described as two black males ages 15 to 18, according to police. Anyone with info on the robbery should contact Philadelphia Police.
