Go Ahead, Run That Light…If You Dare

A new red light camera will be up and running and ready to catch drivers that run red lights at the intersection of Broad and Vine streets at midnight on Monday.

The newest camera is just one of 20 high-traffic intersections equipped with red light cameras.

Cameras were most recently installed at intersections in Roxborough, Port Richmond and Northeast Philly.

Red light runners will receive warnings until Dec. 2. From that point on, violators will be fined $100.

The camera triggers go off three-tenths of a second after the light turns red, according to PPA representative Dennille Varney. You will only get a ticket if the photo shows that your car was before the pedestrian crosswalk when the light turned red and then went through the intersection, Varney says.
