Girl, 9, Survives Hit-and-Run Accident

Aijahnae Johnson talks about being hit while she was riding her bike on Tuesday

Nine-year-old Aijahnae Johnson was hit by a car and hurled into the air while she was riding her bike on Tuesday near her West Philly home.

"I fell over there by the trash can," she said after arriving home from the hospital the next day.

Doctors told Aijahnae that she'll recover from the scratches on her back and side. The third grader and her family are having a harder time, it seems, understanding why the driver who hit Aijahnae would just take off.

"That's a human being. Why leave her there," said Aijahnae's sister, Laniya, who witnessed the accident in the 4800 block of Merion Avenue.

"When I saw all the blood, when she [Aijahnae] asked if she was going to die, I cried," said Aijahnae's aunt, Dazyha Camp.

Aijahnae's mom said she's just glad to have her little girl home. Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver.
