An odorous smoke caused the evacuation of a Philadelphia medical center overnight.
Philadelphia firefighters rushed to Girard Medical Center on W Girard Avenue before 2 a.m. after a fire broke out in the building’s basement.
Patients and staff were evacuated to a nearby café as firefighters investigated.
The fire, it wasn’t clear what caused the smoky haze, appeared to be contained to the basement and the haze lifted around 2:30 a.m., said Philadelphia firefighters.
A short time later, people were allowed back in the building despite a slight odor remaining, said firefighters.
