Girard Ave Ramp on I-95 North to Close for Weekend

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is closing the off-ramp to Girard Avenue on the northbound side of Interstate-95 this weekend.

The closure will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and last until 5 a.m. Monday, complicating the drive to Northern Liberties, Fishtown and other nearby neighborhoods for many motorists.

During the weekend ramp closure, drivers who normally exit I95 at Exit 23/Girard Avenue, will be directed to continue north to Exit 25/Allegheny Avenue. At the bottom of the ramp, motorists should turn right onto Bath Street, follow the roadway to Allegheny Avenue, where they will turn right.

Next they will turn left to merge onto the southbound lanes of I-95, which they will take until they reach the Girard Avenue/Delaware Avenue/Exit 23, where they will exit the interstate.

While the off-ramp is out of service, PECO Energy crews will install a utility duct bank for future street lighting planned for Delaware Avenue, according to PennDOT.

The construction is part of PennDOT's $211.7 million project to rebuild and widen a 1.5 mile stretch of northbound I-95 between Columbia Avenue and just south of Allegheny Avenue.
