Man Attacks Gas Station Attendants With Baseball Bat

A man with a baseball bat beat and robbed a worker pumping gas overnight.

The yet-to-be-identified 60-year-old attendant was working at the Citgo station on Levitt Parkway at Sunset Road in Willingboro, N.J. when someone attacked him around 9 p.m., according to township police.

The violent attack left the victim in serious condition with head injuries at Cooper University Hospital.

It originally appeared that the worker was shot but later investigators said that a thing-built man in a hoodie hit him with a bat, not a gun.

After the beating, the suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and ran off into the backyards of homes on nearby Shawmont Lane.

Station owner Gurmeet Singh said that the attendant began working at the station about a year ago. Singh said another man who helps out at the station hurt his arm as well.

Police continued to investigate the incident through the early hours of Wednesday, blocking off the area and marking evidence including blood-stained ground.

Investigators hoped surveillance in the area would help to determine who committed the assault.

Singh said an incident like this never happened at the station before.
