The Allentown Fire Department evacuated residents from several blocks of a neighborhood after a natural gasoline leak was detected in a sewer line Tuesday.
Residents along the 500, 600 and 700 blocks N. 20th Street were evacuated around 10 a.m, according to fire officials. UGI crews are on the scene working to repair a crack in the gas line.
Evacuation centers are being set up at the Jewish Community Center and Muhlenberg College.
Several surrounding streets were also closed to traffic.
No word yet on what caused the break.
