Funeral for Slain Officer Set for Tuesday

A funeral for slain Freemansburg Police Officer Robert Lasso is scheduled for Tuesday.

The service will take place at 10 a.m. at the Spartan Center at the Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, Pa. Attendees are advised to arrive well in advance.

The Morning Call reports that law enforcement officers may use the entrance on Green Pond Road while others are asked to enter from Oakland Road.

Last Thursday, Lasso, 31, responded to a disturbance call at a Freemansburg home on Washington Street around 5:15 p.m. He was shot in the head at close range, allegedly by 46-year-old George Hitcho Jr. Lasso had previously arrested Hitcho back in 2006 on drug charges, according to court records.

Hitcho is currently locked up without bail in the Northampton County Jail and charged with murder. The Northampton County D.A. says that he’s seeking the death penalty against him.

Lasso’s body was transported from St. Luke’s hospital to Long’s funeral home in Bethlehem during a procession on Friday. He leaves behind a wife and two young children.

Lasso’s family is accepting donations in person or by mail at the Heights Community Federal Credit Union on 3530 Freemansburg Avenue, Bethlehem, PA 19020, according to the Morning Call.
Wawa customers can also contribute by buying $1 donation coupons at Wawa stores in Bethlehem, Easton, Fountain Hill, Lower Nazareth Township and Palmer Township starting Saturday through August 22.
