Fallen Officer Will be Buried Tuesday

One suspect was charged Wednesday with 1st degree murder; second is still on the run

Funeral arrangements were announced Thursday for fallen Georgetown, Del. patrolman Chad Spicer.

Spicer was shot in the face while chasing three suspects believed to be involved in a shooting outside a McDonald's Tuesday night. He is the first Georgetown police officer to be killed in the line of duty.

His partner Cpl. Shawn Brittingham was also struck in the neck by the same bullet. He is recovering from the injury.

Derrick Powell was charged with Spicer's murder Wednesday. A second suspect was questioned and released. The third man, Christopher Reeves of Lincoln, Del., is on the run. Police consider him armed and dangerous. Anyone with information can call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 and remain anonymous or submit information online.

Services are set for Tuesday, September 8 at the Crossroads Community Church located at 20684 State Forest Road in Georgetown. Visitation will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Funeral services will begin afterward. The officer's body will be interned at the Cokesbury Cemetery.
