Full Kennels: ACCT in Philadelphia Offers Free Adoptions for Dogs in Life and Death Situation

There is a life and death situation at Philly's Animal Care and Control Center (ACCT Philly), the kennels are full.

“We rarely discuss euthanasia... but today, we need to,” ACCT Philly said on its Facebook page Wednesday.

The group says they’ve worked 12 hour-shifts and hoped to have another result, but it seems they’re at the point where “we may need to euthanize for space.”

With ACCT Philly's shelter at 100-percent capacity lives are in danger.

“Close to 70 dogs were brought in since Monday and adoptions have been slow,” Carolyn Fitzgerald, lifesaving director for ACCT Philly, said Thursday.

All dogs over 35 pounds are up for adoption for FREE until July 30 at ACCT Philly. The shelter also waived fees on cat adoptions through the weekend.

Dogs are also half-off at the PetSmart in Plymouth Meeting.

“Please help us avoid euthanizing sweet, innocent dogs like Daja who have so much left.”

ACCT Philly is located at 111 W. Hunting Park Avenue and is open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
