Friend of NBC Philly Sends Photos, Video From Tokyo

Photos and video from Tokyo TV star Dave Spector show aftermath of the quake

Dave Spector, an American who stars on Japanese television, sent NBC Philadelphia photos and video from where he lives in Tokyo during and after the devastating earthquake.

Spector, a close friend of NBC Philadelphia News Director Chris Blackman, has lived in Japan since 1983 and appears regularly on several Japanese television shows.

Spector sent a video he captured on his iPhone as the earthquake shook the cab in which he was sitting.

Photos of the destruction in Spector’s apartment show piles of books and tapes that crashed down with the shelves that house them. Glass, presumably from doors littered the floor.

In a phone interview, Spector told NBC Philadelphia that conditions in Tokyo are good compared to the more rural, outlying areas of Japan.

Spector said that when the earthquake hit, the car he was in shook to a frightening extent.

“I would say that no one in Japan has felt an earthquake this size,” said Spector.

The aftershocks are now the biggest concern for the people in Japan now, Spector says.
