Frat. Guy Steals $1000s From Fund for Veteran's Son

The president of a Moravian College fraternity allegedly stole more than $8,000 from a fund that was established to pay for the education of the son of a fallen veteran and former brother of the fraternity.

The Theta Tau chapter of Delta Tau Delta raised over $40,000 for Benjamin Seifert, son of Army Captain Christopher Scott Seifert who died in Kuwait in 2003, by hosting an annual golf tournament in Capt. Chris Seifert’s name.

Jason Cote, 21, was charged on Thursday with swiping, over the course of four months, more than 20 percent of the $40,000 collected. Supposedly, Cote transferred funds from the tournament bank account to his own personal account and spent the money, according to police.

Cote was awarded with an Outstanding President Award and, as a whole; the fraternity received an Outstanding Philanthropy Award earlier this year, as reported on Delta Tau Delta’s web site.

Cote has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property. He is free on $10,000 unsecured bail.
