Fourth Teen Sentenced in Deadly Subway Attack

Sean Conroy died within 30 minutes of the first punch

A North Philadelphia teen that admitted to being the ringleader of a group of teenagers who assaulted a Starbucks manager in a center city subway concourse has been sentenced to prison.

Arthur Alston, 18, was sentenced to 10-20 years in prison after admitting to throwing the first punch at Sean Patrick Conroy, 36, at random in March 2008.

Authorities say the Starbucks manager suffered a stress-induced asthma attack during the beating.

The verdict was a relief to Conroyโ€™s family.

โ€œWe were hoping it would be the same, because that would have made it even more painful had it been less,โ€ said Conroyโ€™s father.

Alston and another teen pleaded guilty to third-degree murder.

Two others were convicted of third-degree murder and a third was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

A judge sentenced Alston on Thursday. He also received to 2 ยฝ to 5 years for assaulting a student at school while on house arrest.

Alston says he's a โ€œkid who made a mistake.โ€
