Former Murder Suspect Gunned Down

A Wilmington man who faced first-degree murder charges and a possible death penalty before prosecutors dropped the case against him this year has been killed in a double shooting in New Castle.

State police on Tuesday identified the victim of Monday night's shooting as 33-year-Medford Holmes.  Investigtators have not yet determined a motive for the shooting.

Troopers were called to New Castle Avenue for a report of shots fired. Holmes was found on the shoulder of the road suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital.

Around that time, staff at Wilmington Hospital reported that a second man had been driven in a private vehicle to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. He was admitted in serious condition. Police have not released the second victim's name.
