First Heat Wave of Season Coming?

Hurricane says it's possible

With a high of 93 today in Philadelphia and forecasts of low 90s for the next two days, there is a good chance of our seeing the first heat wave of the season. We need three days in a row of 90-plus degrees to get an official heat wave.

The humidity was especially high Monday causing the heat index to rise into the upper 90s -- close to the physical danger zone. But less humid air will move in on light easterly winds Tuesday.

Even though the temperature may reach 90, the heat index shouldn't be much higher than that because of the lower humidity.

A cold front will move in Wednesday, but temperatures could climb into the low 90s before it arrives. And the humidity will rise, pushing the heat index back up to the upper 90s in places.

Thunderstorms should come with the front, cooling us off, before cooler and less humid air moves in for the rest of the week.
