Firing Upheld After Relationship With Inmate

An administrative law judge has upheld the firing of a corrections officer for having a relationship with a male inmate.

The Home News Tribune reports the judge rejected Dana Register's appeal in ruling issued this month.

Register was accused of having a relationship with an inmate at the Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility, where she was a senior corrections officer before being dismissed in December. She had worked in the state corrections since 2001.

The investigation into her relationship with the inmate began when officials received an anonymous note claiming that Register was sending the inmate "romantic letters" from a post office box in Easton, Pa.

During testimony at her disciplinary hearing, Register admitted writing the letters but denied allegations that she had sent money to the inmate.
