DelDOT Expects Firefly Music Festival to Draw Heavy Traffic

As sizeable crowds descend upon the site of the Firefly Music Festival, the Delaware Department of Transportation has formulated plans to mitigate traffic congestion.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports the festival, in its sixth year, is expected to draw up to 90,000 people, with at least 70 percent of attendees coming from north of Dover. Gene Donaldson, a DelDOT operations manager, says state officials and partners have held monthly meetings to prepare, hoping to avoid situations like last year's crashes of 2013's six-hour jam.

Donaldson says most festivalgoers will arrive by taking Del. 1 to Exit 104 to U.S. 13. If traffic snarls, there's a plan to close down Exit 104 and divert drivers to Exit 95 to approach the festival from the south.
