Firefighters Deliver Baby on Garden State Parkway

The baby boy was born in an ambulance on the shoulder of the parkway during rush hour.

Two New Jersey firefighters helped bring a baby boy into the world on the Garden State Parkway on Tuesday.

The delivery was made by Matt Johnson and Robert Hartwell in an ambulance, on the median of the parkway during the early morning rush, according to Wildwood Fire Department.

The department says that the expectant mother's labor was progressing so rapidly while being transported to the hospital that the ambulance was forced to pull over and firefighters were called in to deliver the baby boy.

Neither firefighter had previous experience delivering a baby.

Both mother and baby are doing fine and recovering at Cape Regional Medical Center, according to Wildwood firefighters.
