Fire Destroys Landmark Restaurant

Fire tore through a central Pennsylvania landmark over the weekend leaving it in ruin.

Visaggio's restaurant in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County, earned national acclaim over the years for its Italian cuisine.

Pennlive.com reports that fire broke out in the kitchen of the well-known family-owned restaurant on Wertzville Road on Sunday night and quickly grew to five alarms. Cumberland County spokesman John Bruetsch says the cause of the blaze is unknown.

He calls the restaurant's destruction a “loss to the community” that will be felt for a long time.

The restaurant has hosted diners for decades.

“You always knew you were going to get a good meal there,” neighbor Dimitri Zozos told the paper. “You feel like family when you are there. It’s a real shame.”

On its Twitter feed, the eatery promised to be back:

"Thank you to everyone for the thoughts and prayers after our terrible fire last night. All are safe and we will rebuild."
