Fire Chief Rescues 102-Year-Old Woman

The Ardmore Fire Chief ran inside a burning home Friday evening to save a 102-year-old woman.

A 102-year-old woman had to be rescued from her bedroom after a Friday night dinner turned into a frightening scene at a home on Stoneridge Lane in Villanova.

Homeowner Lloyd Brewer told NBC10's Rosemary Connors his wife was cooking in the kitchen when she started calling for help. When Brewer entered the kitchen he saw nothing but flames.

Brewer and his wife made it out of the home, but Brewer's mother-in-law was still inside.

Volunteer firefighters from across the main line descended on the house, but it was Ardmore Fire Chief Tom Hayden who was one of the first to arrive.

Fire officials told NBC10 Chief Hayden ran into the home to rescue the 102-year-old woman. He carried her out of the home and collapsed on the lawn. Chief Hayden and the woman are being treated for smoke inhalation, both are expected to recover.
