Fire Breaks Out at Hotel in Ocean City

Crews are on the scene of a fire at an Ocean City hotel.

Crews are on the scene of a fire at an Ocean City hotel. It happened around 10:30 a.m. at the Bellevue Hotel on 8th and Ocean. Smoke was spotted pouring from the hotel.

The Bellevue was closed and in the process of being demolished due to structural problems. The demolition began Thursday. Officials say a demolition crew was at the site when the fire began.

β€œAs of right now we’re just investigating a structure fire,” said Sergeant Dennis Jones of the Ocean City Police Department.  β€œWe’re receiving mutual aid from surrounding towns with their assistance. Unfortunately something happened inside which ignited the fire. As of right now we’re just trying to get to the root cause of that.”

Sergeant Jones tells NBC10 the structural issues inside the building are adding a challenge to the firefighters who are trying to get it out. Officials also say they’re blocking off a two to three block radius surrounding the building as they continue to battle the blaze.

No injuries have been reported.
