Feds Seek to Detain Sweeten for Fraud Trial

Prosecutors argue that the hoax mom has no home or family to support her if released

Federal authorities hope to detain a suburban Philadelphia mom once at the center of a hoax abduction as she awaits a $700,000 fraud trial.

Bonnie Sweeten is charged with forging bank records and other documents so she could steal money from law firm clients, an elderly relative and others. The Feasterville mother-of-three worked as a paralegal at a small law firm.

She was under investigation last year when she called 911 to say two black men had carjacked and abducted her and her young daughter.

Sweeten's second husband filed for divorce afterward.

Prosecutors opposing bail say she has no home or family support to keep her in the area if released.

The 39-year-old Sweeten served 10 months in a county prison for false reporting and identity theft.
