NJ Turnpike Near Mt. Laurel Reopens After Fatal Crash

A 26-mile stretch of the turnpike is closed Friday morning

Traffic is moving slowly on the N.J. Turnpike Friday morning after it reopened shortly after 9 a.m.

A fatal accident involving three trucks closed the 26-mile stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike in southern New Jersey.

State Police Sgt. Julian Castellanos says the crash involved a box truck, a dump truck and a tanker and occurred around 1:09 a.m. Friday in Chesterfield.

Turnpike Authority spokesman Joe Orlando says one person was killed and another was critically injured. No names have been released and it's not known what vehicles the people were in.

Orlando says the tanker was hauling 8,000 gallons of kerosene.

Orlando says crews need to replace some guardrail and empty as much fuel as possible before uprighting the overturned tanker.

Northbound lanes are closed between Interchanges 4 and 7A. Traffic has been diverted to Interstate 295 and Route 130.

Orlando says officials hope to have the lanes reopened by 9 a.m.
