Fashion Retailer Zara Is the Latest to Leave Center City

The retailer had a presence along Walnut Street since 2004.

In 2005, Rittenhouse Row in Center City boasted a Puma, Diesel, Lucky, Urban Outfitters, Bebe, Benetton, and Zara and two more stores — American Apparel and an Adidas — were on their way to add to the retail line up.

How times change. All of those stores but for Urban Outfitters have closed and Zara is the latest. Zara opened in 2004, giving it a long run along one of Philadelphia’s High Street retail corridors. The store closed March 31. The building Zara was in totals 18,000 square feet over two floors at 1715-1717 Walnut Street.

Other retailers have come and gone along Walnut Street over that time as retailers significantly reduced their brick-and-mortar locations or filed for bankruptcy and shuttered stores.
