Three members of a northwestern New Jersey family were critically injured Wednesday in a violent dispute at their home.
Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony Kearns III said state police responded shortly before 7 a.m., after a 911 caller reported a woman and her 24-year-old daughter were lying injured on the home's front lawn. He said the troopers were confronted by the woman's 48-year-old husband, who was armed with a blunt object and injuring himself.
Authorities said it was not immediately clear what sparked the dispute at the Bloomsbury residence. They would not release the names of the three family members.
The troopers subdued the man, and he was flown to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa., along with his daughter. His wife was taken to another hospital by ambulance. Kearns said all three had life-threatening injuries, and the husband and wife were undergoing surgery.
Neighbor Roberta Dodd said she heard some noise early Wednesday morning and thought it was children playing. She said she has had only brief exchanges with the man and doesn't know the family well.
Kearns said no similar problems have previously been reported at the home. Troopers were dispatched there Sunday for a medical emergency involving the man, but authorities didn't know if that was related to Wednesday's dispute.
