“He's Out Here Somewhere”: Mother Searches for Driver Who Killed Toddler in Hit-&-Run

The mother of a toddler who died after being run down by a hit-and-run driver in Kensington wants her son's killer caught. She and her family are handing out fliers Friday evening in hopes the increased awareness will lead to the driver’s arrest.

"He's out here somewhere," said Josephine Rivera. "I want them to hurry up and catch him."

Rivera's 2-year-old son, David Alicea, Jr., was critically injured when a white 2006 Infiniti M hit her as she carried the boy across the 2700 block of Mascher Street in the Juniata section of Philadelphia on the evening of April 13. The boy was thrown onto the sidewalk and she was tossed under a parked pickup truck.

Alicea, Jr. died three days later at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

Philadelphia Police recovered the car involved after a couple from Williamsport, Pennsylvania learned of the crash and notified investigators. Police said the owners were not driving the vehicle that night.

Rivera, who suffered a head injury, and her family planted a tree in the toddler's honor at a park across the street from the hospital. It's a place the mother and son frequented.

"It's really hard. It's really hard, trust me," Rivera said.

The family plans to hand out 500 fliers about the hit-and-run in the neighborhood where the crash happened.
