Explosive Device Found During NJ Beach Sweep

Amusement park debris spawned by Superstorm Sandy and an explosive device were among the many items uncovered during an environmental group's annual sweep of New Jersey's 127 miles of beaches.

Thousands of volunteers took part Saturday in the cleanups organized by Clean Ocean Action, which has been doing beach sweeps for 25 years.

An unexploded ordnance was found Raritan Bay Waterfront Park in South Amboy. The state police bomb squad unit and other law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, and no injuries were reported.

In Seaside Park, volunteers found stuffed animals from boardwalk attractions, along with debris from the log flume ride. Medical waste was found in Keansburg, while a computer hard drive, fake flowers, a boogie board and a welcome mat were among the items found in Wildwood.
