Explosion Sends 5 NJ Firefighters to Hospital

The fire chief says that the natural gas explosion happened when crews were trying to put out a fire.

Five firefighters was rushed to Cooper Hospital after an explosion in a Pennsauken home.

Pennsauken Fire Chief Joseph Palumbo says a fire broke out at a home on 42nd Street around 6:15 Monday morning. When crews arrived, they began running a hose line to the basement of the home, that's when the natural gas explosion occurred.

The chief sent five firefighters to Cooper University Hospital to be checked out. All injuries were minor.

Residents were inside the home at the time of the fire, but no one was injured. They are now being assisted by the Red Cross.

Crews are working on shutting off gas to the home.
