Experts to Appraise Heirlooms in PIttsburgh

The Heinz History Center is holding the sixth annual "Pittsburgh's Hidden Treasures'' event, and area residents can learn about the historical significance and monetary value of their family heirlooms.

The event is taking place Sunday until 3 p.m. at the history center, the Pittsburgh's Strip District. One person reportedly brought in a sterling silver railroad spike, driven to honor the opening of the New York subway system in the early 1900s.

Professional appraisers will be on hand to evaluate a range from items from books and china to furniture and glass to quilts and toys.

Some items will be featured on a nine-part television series in the fall, airing on KDKA TV.
