Ex-Teacher Sues Former Student

Former Lower Merion teacher says former student got him fired out of jealousy

A physics teacher for the Lower Merion School District was fired this January after a former student told the district that he had an affair with her when she was a student.

The 43-year-old teacher is now suing the 26-year-old woman for slander and libel, reports the Daily News.

Robert Schanne was a teacher at Lower Merion since 1997. Schanne does not deny having an on-and-off relationship with 26-year-old Lower Merion High School graduate Jenna Addis, reports the Daily News. But he says it happened after she graduated.

While Addis told the school district in December that the relationship began while she was an 18-year-old senior, Schanne says that their relationship began the year after Addis graduated, according to the Daily News.

Schanne lost his job over Addis’ accusations.

Now, with a hell-hath-no-fury-like-a-woman-scorned theory, Schanne is suing Addis, saying that she got him fired because she was jealous.

Schanne says that he told Addis he was in an exclusive relationship with another woman around Thanksgiving last year, according to the Daily News.

"Upon learning this fact, Defendant indicated significant jealousy over Plaintiff's . . . exclusive relationship with another woman and threatened to manufacture details about an alleged improper relationship between her and Plaintiff while she was still a high school student - a relationship that never occurred," the suit reads.
