Ex-Athletic Director Pleads Guilty to Sex Charges

Prosecutors say they'll seek jail time Francis Murphy, a former athletic director from Archbishop Carroll.

Prosecutors say they'll seek jail time for a former Catholic high school athletic director who had illicit online contact with a former student at the suburban Philadelphia school.

The Norristown Times Herald reports former Archbishop Carroll High School athletic director Francis Murphy pleaded guilty to Tuesday to charges of unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of a minor.

Authorities say the student had contacted Murphy through Facebook about retrieving a pair of cleats from the football locker room but the exchanges soon became sexual in nature.

Murphy was arrested in April when police say he tried to meet up with the teen for a sexual tryst.

The Times Herald report says Murphy's lawyers released a statement saying Murphy is remorseful and "made a tragic mistake."
