Evesham Township Police Step Up Patrols Near High Crime Areas

Police step up patrol after a rash of burglaries and traffic violations in the area

Evesham Township Police stepped up patrols Thursday in an effort to reduce crime and traffic violations in the area.

More than a dozen extra patrols were on the streets of the area they call β€œhot spots” between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Those areas include busy Routes 70 and 73 bordered by shopping malls, office buildings, apartment complexes and homes.

"Our crime data, traffic data, DUI data overlapped on the map and that determines the hot spot in crime and traffic incidents,” Sgt. Joe Friel said.

Officers in cars, on bikes and with dogs helped to patrol the area.

"The theory is we go out and show a visibly active pro-police work in the area and there will be a reduction in crime in that area.”

There were a rash of burglaries in the area in the last six months, according to police. About 41 homes were robbed in the Burlington County community.

On Thursday thieves robbed Roberts Jewelry Store along Route 73 of $450,000 in high-end watches.

A driver and a student were injured in a school bus accident at the intersection of Kettlerun Road and Hopewell Road in February.
