Swine Flu Shuts Down 2 Schools

Baltz Elementary School in Elsmere, Del., is closed Monday and could remain closed until mid-May, due to a probable case of the swine flu.  It's the first local elementary school to shut down due to the virus.

One Baltz student recently tested has been listed with a probable case of H1N1.  A student at First State School in Delaware also has a probable case of the virus. Both students' cases are mild, according to health officials.

First State School is a school of 15 students with special health conditions, located on the campus of Wilmington Hospital.  Because students get medical care there, state public health officials -- after speaking with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) -- have recommended that the school stay open.

While there is no causal link, University of Delaware students were at a First State School for an event on Friday, April 24.

Both Baltz Elementary and First State are part of the Red Clay School District.

Delaware has 10 confirmed cases and 16 probable cases.  All of the confirmed cases are University of Delaware students.

In New Jersey, Hainesport Township School is closed in Hainesport, Burlington County, N.J., at least until Wednesday as a precaution. Two children there have flu symptoms. Preliminary test samples are being sent to the state health department.

New Jersey has seven confirmed cases of swine flu and one probable case.
