Elderly Woman's Son Charged in Beating Death: Sources

Sources say the woman was abused for some time

An investigation into the death of an elderly Germantown woman has uncovered years of abuse at the hands of her son, sources tell NBC Philadelphia.

Esther Ayodele, 82, was found dead inside her Apsley Street  home  Thursday evening, police said.

Authorities responded to the home after a 911 call was made just after 9 p.m. During the call, an unidentified person told authorities Ayodele was unresponsive, police said.

When police arrived, the woman was dead. The medical examiner determined Friday that she died after suffering blunt force trauma to the head.

Over the course of the homicide investigation, police say they found evidence that Ayodele was killed by her son, sources say.

Ige Adegbola, 62, cared for his mother inside the Apsley Street home, according to sources.

Adegbola is accused of abusing his mother for some time. Sources say investigators believe he beat his mother with an electrical cord.

Adegbola, who has no prior arrests, has been charged with Murder and related offenses, sources say.
