Authorities in northwestern Pennsylvania say an elderly man was struck and killed by a train on Memorial Day.
Erie County Deputy Coroner Dennis Suscheck told The Erie Times-News that the 84-year-old Harborcreek Township man left home to take a walk Monday morning.
He said the victim stepped into the path of the train shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday and was struck by a westbound CSX train heading from Buffalo to Ohio.
The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 4 p.m. Monday.
State police are investigating the accident.
