Elderly Man Attacked in Wissahickon Park

The victim, a retired professor, is speaking out about his ordeal.

Philadelphia Police are on the hunt for four suspects who attacked an 84-year old retired professor at Wissahickon Valley Park.

It happened shortly before 1:30 Monday afternoon. Retired Temple journalism professor James Shay was brutally beaten by four teenagers. He was hit in the head and fell down, then he was kicked by his attackers.

Shay told NBC10, "these guys came up from behind me, jumped me from behind."

Three of the four teens were wearing LaSalle shirts. They were able to get away before police officers arrived on the scene.

Shay was treated for his injuries at Chestnut Hill Hospital and released. He said he has eight stitches in his face.

Shay also said he hopes to return to his route through the park, which has become a routine since his retirement.

There's no word on a motive. Shay said his attackers did not rob him and beat him up for no apparent reason.
