Elderly Man Falls From Window, Dies

Authorities say a 93-year-old man died after falling from a window of his fourth-floor apartment at a Pennsylvania retirement home.

The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era reports a security guard found the body of John Holden around 5 a.m. Monday at the Willow Valley Retirement Community in West Lampeter Township, Lancaster County.

Investigators say Holden apparently fell from a window in his fourth-floor suite, where he lived alone.

Lancaster County Coroner Stephen Diamantoni says Holden died of multiple traumatic injuries and that the death has been ruled accidental. He says Holden also suffered from pre-existing medical conditions that may have been a factor in the fall.

Falls are common among older people. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that one in three adults 65 years of age and older suffer a fall each year. Falls also account for the most injury-related deaths for older people.
