Victim Tracks Suspects With Cell Phone's GPS

So it’s not vigilante justice but a Pittsburgh man took matters into his own hands by using his cell phone Global Positioning System (GPS) to track down the alleged crooks who stole his iPhone early Saturday morning.

Pittsburgh police said Bryant Rather and Brent Ray Potter, both 22, pulled a pellet gun on a man about 1 a.m. along Amberson Avenue in Shayside.

The men took the victim’s wallet and iPhone and made him give them his personal identification number to one of his bank cards.  They then told the victim to “get out of here,” according to police.

The victim ran home and called police. When officers arrived they found him canceling his bank and credit cards and tracking the location of his phone,” said police. The victim told police the alleged thieves stopped at a gas station in Homewood, withdrew $500 from an automated teller machine and bought $42.60 worth of gas with the victim's credit card, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.

The victim was able to his perpetrators movements to a North Versailles gas station where they were eventually arrested.  Police also arrested a third man, Myron Knox. Jr, who was with them. The men had the victim’s bank and credit cards on them, according to police.

Rather and Potter will be charged with robbery, police said. Rather, Potter and Knox will be charged with two counts each access device fraud, criminal conspiracy, receiving stolen property and possessing instruments of crime, according to the paper.
