Drunk Teen Dad-to-Be Steals to Prepare for Baby: Police

Police say the 19-year-old broke into a home and stole tools so that he could start his own company and make money for the baby.

Police say a soon-to-be teen father broke into a Northampton County home and stole tools so that he could make money for his unborn child, reports The Morning Call.

According to authorities, Tyler MacDonald, 19, threw a brick through the home’s window and proceeded to steal the tools.

He tells the Bangor Road homeowners, who were able to connect MacDonald to the crime, that he stole the tools so that he could start his own construction company, eventually enabling him to provide for the baby, according to The Morning Call.

He also begged them not to press charges, but when he showed up at the house to return the stolen tools, he was promptly arrested, reports the paper.

MacDonald was sentenced to serve up to 23 months in prison, where he will participate in a drug/alcohol/life skills program. He’ll be on probation for three years. He was also ordered to pay for the broken window and serve 20 hours of community service, according to The Call.

"He has a good heart,," Defense attorney Gary Asteak told The Morning Call. "He knows right from wrong."
