Drunk Driver Hits Officer's Car: Police

A police officer escaped injury when an alleged drunken driver sideswiped his parked cruiser.

Neptune City authorities tell the Asbury Park Press that Patrolman Thomas Holmstedt had stopped another vehicle shortly before the crash occurred around 2:50 a.m. Friday. At the time, he was sitting in the cruiser and its emergency lights were flashing.

Authorities say 24-year-old Amber Bellaus of Raritan was driving the car that hit Holmstedt's cruiser. They say she didn't stop at the scene, but the officer pursued the vehicle and stopped it a short time later.

Bellaus was charged with drunken driving and received several motor vehicle tickets. A telephone number for Bellaus could not be located Friday, and it was not known if she had retained a lawyer.
