Drug Dealers Charged in Heroin Overdose Deaths

Two alleged drug dealers in Ocean County have been indicted on manslaughter charges in connection with two heroin overdose deaths.

They've been charged under a rarely used state law. It's part of an effort by the Ocean County prosecutor to crack down on heroin dealing amid a big spike in overdose deaths.

The county has had 62 overdose deaths this year, the majority from heroin. The total for all of last year was 53.

Prosecutor Joseph Coronato says he wants to send a strong message to the heroin dealers.

Under the indictment handed up Thursday, 22-year-old Rasan McGee of Atlantic City is charged with the April death of 26-year-old Steven Janson in Barnegat. Thirty-three-year-old Kenneth Staunton of Lacey is charged with the January death of 27-year-old Raymond Farino in Lacey.
