2 Women Shot Dead in Northeast Philly

A community continues to mourn two women who were found dead after shots rang out in a Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood Saturday.

The shooting took place on the 4700 block of Vista Street in the Holmesburg section of the city just before 6 p.m., according to authorities.

"Two females, mid-50s, both shot, deceased," said Philadelphia Police Capt. George Gianfortune. "One in the living room, one in the bedroom.

Each victim was shot once in their head and pronounced dead at the scene at 5:55 p.m., according to police

Family members identied one victim as Ruby Nell Thomas, who was visiting her friend at the Vista Street home. Her brother rushed to the scene when he heard the sirens.

"I know my sister goes over to the house," said Joey Thomas. "And when I came over to the house, they said two peoer were shot and I found out it was my sister."

Investigators did not recover a weapon and are unsure whether the victims were targeted or if it was a random act of violence.
