Dog Named ‘Thor' Kills Zoo Animal

The dog's owner told police he didn't realize his dog had gotten loose

The owner of a dog that got loose and killed a deer at the Erie Zoo will be cited for failing to control the animal.

The Erie Times-News reports a city police officer killed the dog, a 5-year-old, 80-pound Husky named Thor, when it would not move away from the doe it killed Monday morning.

Police have not publicly named the dog's owner because they've yet to send that man a citation, though police say they have spoken with the man.

Rob Culbertson, the police department's animal control officer, says the dog's owner didn't know his dog had gotten loose and "acted more shocked his dog would do something like this than anything else."

The citation carries a $100 fine and the man might have to replace the deer, which was worth about $500.
