Pet Pooch Captures Man's Proposal on New Jersey Beach

A Philadelphia man said he surprised his future wife and popped the question with the help of the couple’s pet pooch Roo.

Kurt Gies, 25, got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend of six years, Amanda Wiseman, on an Ocean City beach in New Jersey as Roo, their 3-year-old pup, captured the engagement on video with a GoPro camera attached to her harness.

After rescuing Roo together two years ago from the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia, Gies knew he wanted her to be included in the big moment.

“I was thinking of ways to propose and of something creative,” Gies said. “I wanted a creative way to capture that moment and capture us in a light that is perfect.”

And timing, as the future groom describes, played an essential role in his proposal.

“We bought the GoPro camera harness earlier that morning and put it on Roo. At first I didn’t know if Roo recorded that moment,” Gies said of the April 3 proposal. “But when we got home, I saw that she turned her head just at the right time.”

Gies carefully planned his engagement to take place in the same location the couple originally met.

“This is where we met and we were already going down for the weekend,” Gies said. “Instead of setting up something new, it would be such a surprise to do it where we already had plans.”

The newly-engaged couple is also hoping Roo can be a part of their wedding day.

“We are hoping to include her, but we are still looking at venues,” Gies explained. “We would absolutely love for her to participate.”

While a date has not been set, Kurt and Amanda are planning for a wedding in May or September next year.
